Elderberry is an old remedy for cold and flu. It contains a high amount of Vitamin C, which is one of the biggest immune system boosters. It is said to have activity against influenza—a virus responsible for flu.

Its high amount of vitamin A gives rise to its potency in reducing wrinkles, as vitamin A has anti-aging properties. Also, Its antibacterial and antifungal properties have been shown to work effectively against acne. The American Nutrition Association (ANA) suggests that using an elderberry face wash can help fight acne because of its antiseptic effect.

It has been used in the treatment of many illnesses such from constipation, headache, stress, kidney problems, joint and muscles problems, and so on.
Elderberry Supplement Dosage
There has been no standard dosage but 15ml (1 tablespoon) of elderberry syrup taken times daily has proven to work.
For supplements, 150mg to 300mg for immunity have shown to work. Occasionally, it could be increased to about 1200mg for 2 weeks to fight severe flu illnesses.
Side Effects
It is generally safe in small doses, but the unripe or uncooked berry is not safe and could cause nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting
Who Should Not Take Elderberry?
- Pregnant Women.
- People with autoimmune diseases like lupus, and multiple sclerosis.
- Children less than 5 years old.
